Mohapeloa had retired by the time he wrote Sehopotso in 1978 and had joined the staff of the newly-opened National Teachers Training College, so it may well have been written for their choir. It celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Lesotho Family Planning Organisation, now known as Lesotho Planned Parenthood. Like many of the songs in Mohapeloa’s 1976 songbook Meluluetsa, Sehopotso is a ‘landmark’ song, meaning that it celebrates an event in the construction of the new nation, Lesotho.
