Mohapeloa completed Quthing in 1946, first publishing it in 1963 in the song book Binang ka Thabo (Songs of Joy) in Mazenod, Lesotho and re-publishing it in Cape Town in 1976 as song No. 24 of 25 in Meluluetsa ea Ntšetso-pele le Bosechaba Lesotho (Anthems for the Development of the Lesotho Nation). Quthing is a place in southwest Lesotho that, like Butha-Buthe is both a district and a town (sometimes called a ‘camptown’). It also goes by the name of Moyeni, and is the southernmost town in Lesotho, not far from the borders of both the Eastern Cape and Free State provinces of South Africa. The area, known as the southern highlands of Lesotho, is not as spectacular or rugged as the great peaks of the Maloti mountain range in the east but is still elevated, and quite beautiful.
