Musically, this song belongs to the genre of funeral songs or dirges, which are common in Lesotho. The words, however, are not about individual bereavement but a more generalised sorrow, and refer to the folk tale of Tselane and to ‘Limo’, meaning ‘Cannibal’ - with a capital C - which could mean people who eat other people. LIteral cannibalism was not unknown in Lesotho’s past, but this song probably refers more broadly to the destructiveness of civil strife.
