’Mutlanyana (1936 recording)

’Mutlanyana was the first song Mohapeloa composed, some time in late 1929, and the score was published for SATB in his first songbook, in 1935. The Morija Training College Male Choir conducted by Bennie Mashologu recorded it for TTBB in December 1936 at the Gallo Studios, Johannesburg. This historic recording was reissued in 2014 by ACE as Track 5 on the CD African Choral Legacy: Historic Recordings of Joshua Pulumo Mohapeloa. The text is based on a well known folk tale.
