Pelo Le Moea

Pelo Le Moea and Nonyana Tse Ntle are the only two extant songs by Moerane written for Soprano and Alto. They are perfect little studies in two-part counterpoint, perhaps written for school use although we do not know exactly when. The lyrics of Pelo Le Moea are what Moerane calls ‘Setsoto’, implying that he drew from a traditional Lesotho source, and the song is a touching tribute to familial love. The style of the music is rather Schumannesque, the last 4 bars reminiscent of the opening of Waldscenen No. 6, ‘Herberge’ (Inn).
