Mohapeloa had retired by the time he wrote ‘Sehopotso’ in 1978, and had joined the staff of the newly-opened National Teachers Training College. It may well therefore have been written for their choir. The song celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Lesotho Family Planning Organisation, now known as Lesotho Planned Parenthood. Like many of the songs in Mohapeloa’s 1976 songbook, Meluluetsa, Sehopotso is a ‘landmark’ song, celebrating a significant event in the construction of the new nation, Lesotho.
