The original date of composition and first publication of ‘Eben-Ezer’ by Morija Sesuto Book Depot is unknown. Because it commemorates the erection of a monument to Lesotho Evangelical Church’s founders, who were 19th-century French-Swiss missionaries, the date could be 1958,  which would be 125 years after the church was founded in 1833. The text comes from 1 Samuel, chapter 7 verse 12 of the New Testament: “Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the Lord helped us”. Mohapeloa remained a staunch Christian throughout his life and wrote many songs of praise and faith.
