In Lebili Moerane draws on a a poem by Bennett Khaketla (1913-2000), the Lesotho writer and politician from whose poems Moerane chose several for his song settings, sometimes using only a few verses and usually adapting them. It could even have come from one of Khaketla’s Sesotho storybooks. There is no information available about when or where the song was written. The mood of the music is rather sad, reflecting the fatalistic tone of a poem that laments the rise and fall of one's fortunes in love.
