four romantic piano pieces
R59.00
The four romantic piano pieces – homage to mahler, ode to a lost friend, serenade for the beloved, and elegy – were composed in 1985 in Durban, South Africa and are collected together here in one publication; they are also available separately. The source for the collection is an autograph handwritten 24-page manuscript book. The inside cover of the book has a note attached in Reddy’s handwriting giving precise durations for each piece based on one of his recordings of them: 2’19” for homage to Mahler (3 pages), 2’24” for ode to a lost friend (5 pages), 2’32” for serenade for the beloved (4 pages), and 6’8” for elegy (12 pages). Reddy also photocopied the four romantic piano pieces and pasted the copies into a performing book in order to play them in concerts, as was his custom. His programme note for a performance of them in the late 1980s is available below, and the video was made at a concert in Konstanz, Germany, in 1999.
