The Collected Works of Dr. Ephraim Amu is a scholarly performance edition containing the complete musical output of the “father of Ghanaian art music,”1 in seven volumes. Though a complete edition of Amu’s works is overdue, its lack is not unusual for issues of this type. Transcriptions of traditional African repertoires, and notated scores of African art music do exist, yet, a complete edition of a single West African art music composer was yet to be undertaken, even as the desire for such editions is acute.2

The new seven-volume scholarly performance edition presents Amu’s works according to voicing, and chronologically within each volume, as follows:

Volume I – SATB works, 1926 – 1933 (32 scores)
Volume II – SATB works, 1934 – 1945 (35 scores)
Volume III – SATB works, 1946 – 1995 (38 scores)
Volume IV – TTBB works, 1926 – 1995 (25 scores)
Volume V – Solos, Duets and Trios, 1926 – 1995 (35 scores)
Volume VI – Instrumental works, 1926 – 1995 (14 scores)
Volume VII – Choral works in a Western idiom, 1920 – 1930 (23 scores)
