serenade for the beloved (no. 3 of four romantic piano pieces) (1985)

Catalogue no:

serenade for the beloved is a love song, a very nostalgic piece that relies heavily on the harmonic language of the late 19th century including lush modulations and chords, although there is also an echo of ‘La vie en rose’ in the melody. Like the other three pieces in the set, it was composed in 1985 directly in pen, hence the frequent crossings out and rather sketchy, provisional notation. Reddy wrote the four pieces as a set and numbered the pages consecutively, which is why serenade begins on his page 9.
