ode to a lost friend (no. 2 of four romantic piano pieces) (1985)

Catalogue no:

Originally entitled ‘Ode to friendship’, Reddy changed the title at some point to ‘Ode to a lost friend’, which better reflects the sense of yearning the piece embodies, and the Wagnerian harmonic world he creates in it. Like the other three pieces in the set, it was composed in 1985 directly in pen, hence the frequent crossings out and rather sketchy, provisional notation especially in some of the left-hand accompanying passages, which have to be ‘imagined’ or indeed, improvised. Reddy wrote the four pieces as a set and numbered the pages consecutively, hence ode begins on his page 4.
