Mosele is a choral fanfare, a relentlessly syncopated, joyful song based on a traditional source from Lesotho. ‘Mosele’ is a generic Sesotho name for a girl child, who is normally the youngest in the family, but Moerane’s first granddaughter was called ‘Mosa’, which is quite close, and so perhaps it was a little fanfare to celebrate her birth. The traditional lyrics (about a bad hair day) are not very flattering, however. They are in Sesotho, and a free mp3 of the spoken lyrics is available with the score.
