masakane – let us build together (set of orchestral parts)

This set of 30 orchestral parts accompanies the new full orchestral score of masakane – let us build together. The orchestral version of masakane was originally composed in 1996 for the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) and was only performed once, soon after it was finished, but the parts made for that performance cannot be found. The work was part of a ‘Human Rights Oratorio’ commissioned by the Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) for performance at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. The text was based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations in 1948. The section that Reddy wrote is called ‘Family and Ownership’, and the programme note that Reddy wrote in 1996 (given in the score) emphasises how important the policy and practices of human rights were to Reddy, who all his adult life actively campaigned against racism. The new orchestral score (2022) is based on the autograph, the SAMRO score, and the vocal score that Reddy made in 2001. The parts – for 2 flutes, 2 oboes (2nd also playing cor anglais), 2 clarinets (both playing in A and B-flat), 2 bassoons, 4 horns in F, 3 trumpets in C, 3 trombones (2 ten, 1 bass), timps (4), marimba, xylophone, synthesizer and strings – can be downloaded as a continuous pdf of 248 pages. Included at the end are the vocal parts for Baritone solo and SATB choir with piano accompaniment.
