TY. (short for Teyateyaneng) was first published in 1939 and republished in 1976. It is one of many songs Mohapeloa wrote about places in Lesotho. In his day, Teyateyaneng, or ‘TY’ as it is locally abbreviated, would have been a village, but today it is a small town. It is very likely, as the text says, that Mohapeloa had friends and family members living there. This could however be true of many other places in Lesotho, which is a very small and tightly knit country where people are often related through extended families or larger clans, and where in his day they might have attended the same high school at Morija.
