‘TY’ was first published in 1939 and republished in 1976. It is one of many songs Mohapeloa wrote about places in Lesotho. In his day, ‘Teyateyaneng’, often abbreviated ‘TY’ in Lesotho, would have been a village. Today it is quite a bustling small town. It is very likely, as the text says, that Mohapeloa had friends and family members living there. This could however be true of many other places in Lesotho, which is a very small and tightly knit country where people are often related through extended families or clans.
