suite no. 4 in a minor was probably written in late 1984, and as with Reddy’s previous keyboard suites it re-imagines early 18th-century keyboard style in a modern idiom. The five dances, or movements, are Prelude/Allemande-Courante-Minuets(3)-Gavotte-Sarabande. Reddy typeset the original handwritten manuscript in 2006 making minor notational changes. suite no. 4 echoes the contrapuntal majesty of ‘Prelude and Fugue No. 20’ from Book 1 of Das Wohltemperierte Klavier, which is also in A minor. Reddy had performed the complete ‘48’ in London as a student, repeating the cycle in Durban in May 1983. The 4th suite was dedicated only in 2006, to his friend Michael Wiener, a psychologist and violinist whom Reddy met after he settled in Germany in the mid-1990s.
