Abibirimma (Fellow Africans) for SATB chorus was composed May 13, 1931. This song was inspired by Rev. Christian B. Gati, Amu’s teacher and headmaster of the Peki-Blengo Presbyterian Middle Boarding School. According to Amu, Rev. Gati had the opinion that Africans needed to develop themselves so that they could take their place among the family of nations. Amu felt the song could be remembered as the ‘Gati song.’ (Philip T. Laryea. Ephraim Amu: Nationalist, Poet and Theologian, p. 79).
