Mohapeloa completed ‘Qachaseneke’ in 1976, publishing it in Cape Town in 1976 as the final song in Meluluetsa ea Ntšetso-pele le Bosechaba Lesotho (Anthems for the Development of the Lesotho Nation). Qacha’s Nek is a pass in eastern Lesotho near the top of the Maloti (also called Maluti or Drakensberg) mountain range. It lies on the border with the South African province of the Eastern Cape, near Matatiele, and is the name of both a village and a district. Qacha (there is no ‘u’ after the palatal click sound ‘q’ in Sesotho) was historically an important Basotho chief.
