‘’Maborokoane’ (Cape Bunting) parallels another song by Mohapeloa, ‘Molepe’ (Widow Bird), which immediately follows it in his 2nd songbook (1939), Meloli I. Both songs are about common birds found in the fields and reeds in the Lesotho countryside. It also recalls the singing of the bird that features in the first song in Meloli II, ‘Leeba’ (The Dove). The sound of birds pervades Mohapeloa’s output during his early years, reminding us of how close he was to nature.
