‘Liba sa Borata’ speaks to the devastating effects of drought conditions which are all too common in Lesotho and are disastrous for its largely rural, subsistence farming economy. Wells are critical during drought, and this particular one is located in the area of the composer’s ancestral home, the BaTaung. Taung in Lesotho (not to be confused with Taung in the North-West province of South Africa) was celebrated by Mohapeloa in his song, ‘U Ea Kae?’ (JPM001).
