This stirring, march-like anthem was apparently composed to celebrate the founding of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963, but it was never published, and may never have been performed. Mohapeloa probably intended it to be accompanied, for he made a solo piano version of the anthem as well, which can be played with the choir version of ‘Freedom in Unity’. In the 1960s it as timely to celebrate the unity of Africa as a continent, with so many countries gaining their independence, including Lesotho, Mohapeloa’s homeland, in 1966.
