flute variations on an original theme (b-a-c-h influenced) is a seven-page contrapuntal work for flute and piano, composed in serial style. It is published here as a facsimile of a draft manuscript score, since only one page of the original fair copy has survived. The variations were composed c1979 when Reddy was a student at the Royal College of Music, London, almost certainly for his flautist friend Martin Feinstein. It comprises a theme and four variations on the musical letters B-flat, A, C, B-natural and makes a good companion piece to Reddy’s other early works for flute and those based on B-A-C-H.
